Gimli's Iron Law of Body Count Math:
(applies equally to captured despots and completed projects, as well)
[No matter how big the Oliphant you slay is . . .]
"It still only counts as one!"

we saw the movie late in the evening and didn't wait to see all the credits. was there a "no oliphants were harmed during the making of this film" caveat anywhere?
Posted by: chris hall at December 22, 2003 04:01 PMNot that I caught, Professor, and my wife and I stayed until the big blue screen with the rating came on. (BTW, why do the powers that be put that at the END of the film when, presumably, the audience may, or may not, have ALREADY been offended?)
There were, however, several small armies credited (gratuitous examples: featured orcs, hammermen, the Army of the Republic of New Zealand, etc.) so I guess we'll have to wait until the Platinum Edition DVD set is released for the definitive word on whether or not the MESPCO [Middle Earth Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Oliphants] was adequately mollified.
I love Gimli as an outstanding character of LOTR. Those who don’t like him don’t know him.
