A superficial reading might hint that The Speculist is all about the robots, the artificial intelligences (both friendly and unfriendly), the space elevators, the nanotechnology, the rapid replicators, the 3-D chess boards, the interstellar space voyages, the voyages through time to world's that never were, the medical breakthroughs, the movie reviews, the cute pet stories, the cosmological ruminations, the paranormal debunkings, and -- let's not forget -- the occasional photo of a hot woman in a bikini, when called for, nay demanded, by the context of the accompanying story.

But there's more to it than just that. We're looking ahead. The future is unfolding before us and all around us. Can we predict what's coming next? Can we anticipate it?
