Good News Roundup

Two pieces of good space news:
  • The [Spirit] rover has been operating for 65 days on Mars and has an expected lifetime of 90 days. Spacecraft operators, however, said both rovers could easily last more than twice that long.

  • The Hubble Space Telescope may have won a reprieve as Nasa has agreed to study ways to service it using robots.
As robots become more capable we could quickly reach a point where human space travel will be seen as too risky and costly for the scientific return - at least traditional human space travel.
