Postrel says no. Simberg says yes.
I'm afraid there's no 100% satisfactory answer to that question. I was just reading the other day about the distinction between linkers and thinkers (I can't remember where I saw this; if someone could remind me, that would be great.) This distinction works up to a point, but it's ultimately wrong. Even the busiest linker does quite a bit of thinking, and even the purest thinker links from time to time.
Anyway, Rand, I believe what Virginia meant is that she's going back to do some paid writing, which I'm sure you'll agree is good work if you can get it.

Posted by: Philip Shropshire at December 12, 2003 09:46 AMsteve den beste talked about linkers vs thinkers, or writers vs editors in several of his posts. dunno whether he came up with that idea tho.
Posted by: queefert at December 14, 2003 10:38 PMI think it was Lileks who originally came up with the "thinker" and "linker" labels, with the Prof being the canonical "linker" and Den Beste the "thinker".
