Space Elevator

Here's a good overview of the upcoming engineering achievement that's going to do more towards moving humanity into space than anything that's come before. As I noted earlier, not everyone is convinced.

I doubt this is gonna work. Sorry - but a gynormous pole sticking up straight from the earth into the ozone isn't the most attractive thing now is it.....we have enough of those in coporate America. Not to mention the terrorism target potential, or the cost to tax payers, etc....

Cost to taxpayers? Who says the government will have anything to do with it? I'll bet you a beer the only thing the gov will do is try to stop it.

And speaking of relevance, what's the "ozone" remark doing in there?

Plus if you build a bunch of them, then it reduces the terrorism interest. Nailing one of twenty space ladders just isn't as cool as nailing the only one.
