Phil's right. Things ARE getting better all the time.
For a history of the Modzelewski Employment Watch see here, here, here, here, here, and here.
Yep, things are getting better. We don't need artificial controversies.
BTW, take a look at the Proaction Principle. It's about time we countered this meme.
Posted by: Karl Hallowell at May 19, 2004 09:58 PMEr, that is the "Precautionary Principle" meme.
Posted by: Karl Hallowell at May 19, 2004 09:59 PMI'm assuming that the Precautionary Principle/Proactionary Principle controversy is "real." I wouldn't want to be wasting my time on any more "artificial" controversies.
By the way, I commented on that "Proactionary Principle" post several days ago.
Posted by: Stephen Gordon at May 20, 2004 05:21 AMOops. Didn't see your comments. Sorry about that.
It appears to me that there's a significant propaganda effort to philosophically rationalize Ludditism. The Precautionary Principle shows up all the time in politics. For example, here's a quick Google search on the term in recent news stories (54 not necessarily distinct occurances by my count). But this includes applying the precautionary principle to government laws and regulations.
For example, EMF thresholds have been reduced in the UK due to "uncertainty" with the Precautionary Principle explicitly cited as a reason for doing so.
